Sick LeaveBig Benefits provides benefits that continue your salary when an occasional illness or accident prevents you from working. You accrue one half day of sick leave per month to a maximum of 36 days.Should your disability continue, then:
Short-Term Disability (STD)STD coverage pays you a weekly benefit after a 7-day waiting period (waiting period waived if hospitalized or injured) if you become totally disabled and have used all of your accrued sick time. When your disability extends beyond your accrued sick leave, you will receive a weekly benefit amount of:
which a portion may be paid by California & New Jersey State Disability Insurance for up to 26 weeks (assuming you meet the Big Ben & State Disability Insurance definition of total disability).
Long-Term DisabilityIf your disability continues beyond 26 weeks, you may be eligible for:
monthly from the LTD Plan payable until you are no longer disabled or to age 65. However, if you become disabled before completing 5 years of coverage under the Advance Plan as an active employee, your LTD benefit will cease on the earlier ofa) the date you are no longer disabled,b) the length of time you were covered under the Plan as an active employee.
Additional Disability BenefitsContinuation of your medical/dental/basic life coverage at no cost to you (based on your years of service).
